National Engineering Register is working on a broad scale by catering professionalism in all fields of Engineering. The NER application for EA has been categorized into 15 sections which are as follow.
Section 1 – What is (National Engineering Register NER) for EA?
NER is a database which is globally searchable, providing a national system of registration in Australia for Engineering Professional, Engineering Associates, and Engineering Manager both in public as well as in the private sector.
Section 2 – why do we registered on NER for EA?
NER is considered as a national standard for professionalism in Australia. It reckons those whose competencies, skills, current experience, academic awards, and qualifications are meeting the standards and are recognizable.
Section 3 – NER room of practice
General areas of practice are Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
Special areas which are only accessible to Chartered Members of Engineers Australia are, Naval Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Heritage and Conservation Engineering and Sub-divisional Geotechnics.

Section 5 – Who can register on NER?
- Chartered Members of EA, Professional Associate, Professional Engineers and Professional Technologists, who have PI insurance.
- EA members who have 5 years of experience in the engineering field in the past seven years.
- Non – EA who have 5 years of experience in the engineering field in the past seven years in the field of practice.
Section 5 – preparing the application for NER Application for EA
The NER recognition and eligibility requirements are; recognized academic qualification, pertinent practice, have CPD, the advantage of PI Insurance and loyalty to ethical matters.
Section 6 – members and non – members of Engineers Australia
The Chartered Members of EA have to meet the benchmark set by NER during the practice in engineering service.
The members of EA with 5 years of experience should have work experience statement, CPD, Professional Referee check; PI insurance policy then selected ones will have an interview. Whereas, non – members of EA should have work experience statement, CPD, career episodes, competency assessment with academic certificates and supporting documents.
Section 7 – RPEQ application
Chartered members who are practicing in Queensland are directly eligible for the assessment letter. They will receive a letter to confirm whether their qualification is a part of the evaluation as Regional Professional Engineering of Queensland (RPEQ).
Section 8 – The Assessment Process
The NER applications are assessed by highly qualified assessors and are members of EA. The assessment is totally on merit bases.
Section 9 – The Assessment Time
The time frame for assessing applications is 3 to 4 weeks usually, but it can vary if additional documents required.
Section 10 – Registration Fee.
The registration fee for Chartered Members, EA non-Chartered Members is $96+GST, for Non-EA members is $165+GST. The assessment fee for Chartered Members, EA non-Chartered Members is $330+GST, for Non-EA members is $550+GST.
Section 11 – Information on NER
The information will be disclosed about registered applicants is their given name, nominated members of EA, State in Australia or postcard for overseas applicants, occupational category and areas of practice.
Section 12 – Declaration
Applicants need to accept the declaration and make agreements on all terms and conditions.
Section 13 – Personal Details
Applicants should mention personal details, contact number, e-mail address, and postal address.
Section 14 – Cancellation of Registration
The application can be canceled in case of misconduct, unprofessional behavior, and fake information.
